Version 8.1.6.1 Stability

I would like to get this on the record that the latest NinjaTrader release 8.1.6.1 is a really bad build. It was so unstable with constant crashes that I had to revert back to the prior 8.1.5.2 version. As a ‘very’ longtime user, the 8.1.6.1 build was so unstable that it was reminiscent of the problem plagued NinjaTrader move from version 6 to version 7. I’m posting this here so that hopefully the NinjaTrader development team can rectify the issues regarding the stability of the latest release and do a much better job at putting out new releases in the future.

I’ve learned that if you ‘reload historical data’ that tends to solve a lot of issues.

Additionally, if you are using tick replay in any charts, go to tools > historical data > and downoad the tick data span of time you need. It’ll sort you out.

Ninjatrader is a large company, they’re not releasing beta software.

As complex as the software is, i’ve learned from my personal experience that its 7/10 times user error.

Thanks for the heads-up. 8.1.6 has been ok for me and I was thinking of upgrading. Can you describe issues that faced in more detail? Freezes? Crashes? Indicators not working?

Large companies can be dunces too. Just recall when Microsoft killed phision based NVME drives with their vibe coded windows updates.

Personally I’ve had issues with ninjatrader installer not accounting properly for self coded indicators/strategies/etc. It certainly does not help when ninjatrader decided to limit their support.

I detailed it here: Platform Stability Issue (SOLVED) - #56 by Maverick

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. Platform has been less stable lately and we do not know what is going on since support is no longer out in the open.

Wow, so I’m not alone…Two different people having the same experience with the same solution. We both reverted back to 8.1.5.2 which was the last good build. I too believe that 8.1.6.1 is a train wreck.

I experienced the same issues from the very moment I upgraded to version 8.1.6, which lead me to immediately revert back to previous version which runs perfectly. So for those having issues with NT8, have you tried reverting back to version 8.1.5.2?

And on that note, I will remain on version 8.1.5.2 until they publish the first patch for the train-wreck they created in 8.1.6. But even then, I will be watching everything under a microscope. And at the very first signs of any trouble I will immediately revert back to 8.1.5.2.

Hope that helps! Good luck!"

For those of you defending NT on the release of v 8.1.6.1, I suggest you poke around in this discourse community… there are multiple problems and NT is admitting it to users who have emailed them about it. I have used Ninjatrader for years and it seems to me that the 8.1.6.x releases are the worse Ive seen in a while. You cant download 8.1.6.0 now in Prior Releases.. you have to go back to 8.1.5.2.
Here is a thread on problems with Volume Profile… it happens often even with a clean install… the more data you load on your chart the worse the problem gets. Ive seen this happen to a number of traders I know, its not a fluke and its not user error.

I decided not to upgrade today because of your earlier warnings. I’m doing a lot of indicator developing now and I don’t want issues. I hope this gets resolved. I’ll wait until the next upgrade rolls out, replacing the 8.1.6.1
