NinjaTrader Vendor Licensing vs. External Subscription Licensing

I’m developing a commercial software involving the NinjaTrader add-on, I am currently looking into the Ecosystem Vendor program. I plan to sell the software using a recurring subscription, potentially through Gumroad.

For approved vendors, can NinjaTrader’s user-based licensing be used to activate/deactivate access based on an external subscription? Or would I still need to build my own licensing/authentication system to periodically verify whether the customer’s subscription is active?

I’m mainly trying to avoid building a redundant licensing system if NinjaTrader already provides the infrastructure for this.

@RankUpTrading NinjaTrader’s user-based licensing can handle authorization inside NinjaTrader Desktop, so you generally do not need to build a second licensing check into your add-on.

However, NinjaTrader does not manage the external subscription itself. If you use Gumroad, you would still need to build and maintain an integration that translates purchases, renewals, expirations, refunds, and cancellations into NinjaTrader license updates, either manually or through the NinjaTrader Ecosystem API.

Gumroad could be made to work, but in this case it adds another system to synchronize, reconcile, support, and troubleshoot without providing a practical advantage.

Full disclosure: I’m with QuantKey. QuantKey provides the workflow end to end: selling through Stripe, PayPal, Square, Whop, or a QuantKey-hosted sales flow; CRM and subscription management; and automated licensing through either NinjaTrader’s user-based licensing or QuantKey Direct Licensing.

So if your objective is to avoid building redundant infrastructure, Gumroad is unnecessary. NinjaTrader can provide the licensing enforcement, while QuantKey can handle the commerce, customer management, and license synchronization around it.
