Migrating to Win 11

Hi there!
Old user, new forum
I recently purchased a new Win 11 pc and want to migrate my existing NT7 app to the new machine. Now it is my understanding that NT7 is no longer supported in Win 11 so my question is will I be able to install NT8 on the new machine and restore my NT7 backup data to it? I simply want to preserve my workspaces, templates, and broker connection.
TIA

When I migrated from NT7 to NT8, all my self build indicators had to be rewritten. Not a single one still worked. NT7 code is not working for NT8. So I am afraid that just using a NT7 backup will not work if you have own indicators written for NT7.
If you install NT8 all the indicators that NT8 installs by default will work as before. I suppose that Ninjatrader took care of that.

Thank you for the reply. I have no custom indicators, so I am hoping for a smooth transition.

Doesn’t seem to be the case for me. I tried migrating from a Windows 10 Desktop with NT8.1.3 to a New Windows 11 Desktop and just installed NT8.1.5.2. All the indicators I developed myself and which were working on the old PC can’t even be restored on the new PC. I get the message “Failed to restore Indicator”. Any help I can get is much appreciated.

I bought in June 2024 a new computer with W11. I installed NT8 most recent version and installed several own developed indicators. Everything works perfect. The old computer was a W10. So the switch to W11 caused no problems at all with any of my self developed indicators.
I exported first my own indicators from the W10 PC. After that, I installed them on my W11 PC.
Try to do it that way. Maybe the problem is “restore”.
I think you should export (from old PC to USB) , and then import (from USB to W11 PC) instead of restore.

I recently did W10 to W11 with latest NT8 release including a couple of custom indicators - and pleased to report no issues whatsoever encountered.

FWIW a couple of reminders -

don’t/uninstall/disable OneDrive, so that your Windows \Documents Folder where NT installs User files is created locally not at Microsoft (install W11 using a Local Admin account, not a Microsoft Account)

first make a copy of your W10 \Documents\Ninjatrader folder

Good luck

I rephrase my previous post:
To me, the phrase “restore an indicator” typically refers to the action of bringing back or reactivating a specific indicator in a system, application, or device.
You can only restore an indicator if that indicator is already installed. As you never installed the indicator on the W11 PC, you cannot restore it as it is not there yet. You should install it.
So export the indicator from your W10 PC to a USB stick. Then import the indicator from the USB to your new W11 PC. This should normally work without any problem.
Bruce did not have any problem at all, just like me, which confirms that you do something wrong.

Thank you for your help!

To confirm, this is the way I did it also - fresh bare NT8 install, confirm working no errors, only then add custom indicators
