Migrating from Nt8.0 to NT8.1 - no brokerage account - how to see account dashboard/plans and how to migrate NT8.0 historical DB

Hi

I am using NT8.0 with a lifetime licence key with IB (interactive brokers) brokerage

I am trying to upgrade/migrate to NT8.1

for this I completed these steps :

  1. I did a backup of my install of NT8.0 (all settings + historical database)

  2. I registered an account name and password on the ninjatrader.com page

  3. I logged into the new NT8.1 account and imported my lifetime licence key with IB with the button under “additional options”

  4. I downloaded the latest version of NT8.1

  5. I cannot create a brokerage account with NT because of my place of residence so I just want to continue using NT with IB like I have been doing on NT8.0

My questions :

  1. how do I see my NT8.1 account dashboard to confirm that my licence key has been imported correctly and I have access to all the plans in NT8.1 that I currently have with my lifetime licence key under NT8.0 (ie orderflow, multi-broker etc)

  2. what is the best way to upgrade to NT8.1 while migrating all the settings and historical database that I have running with NT8.0 ?

    A) do I do a fresh install of NT8.1 and restore from the backup file that I have made with NT8.0 ?

     or

    B) do I install NT8.1 over the install of NT8.0 and the install process will upgrade NT to version 8.1 while keeping the settings and historical database ?

Thank you for your help

First let me say that backing everything up is a very good idea just in case. Personally, I would backup both the “Documents\NinjaTrader 8” and “Program Files\NinjaTrader 8” folders.

As for your questions:

  1. The only way I know of to check your entitlements is in the about dialog of NT itself. (Help → About…)

  2. You should be able to install over your existing setup and NT will retain your configuration. However, if things go awry downgrading is only possible either with a complete removal and reinstall, or by manually replacing everything with your backups.

Good luck!
