I’m on a prop firm’s account whose default platform is Rithmic R|Trader Pro, and they stated their credentials could connect to third-party platforms that are Rithmic-based/compatible, specifically NinjaTrader included. However, their credentials given are not being recognized by the NinjaTrader login portal, at least not offhand. Is there anyone out there with knowledge on this and the potential licensing items needed for this purpose as well as how to work them?
Rithmic credentials are not used for that.
The web login at NinjaTrader.com is strictly for
accessing their website (which you’ll still need
to do, just to download the NinjaTrader desktop
software) as well as for the initial login to start
the desktop software.
After installing the NinjaTrader desktop software,
run it and login using your NinjaTrader web portal
credentials. Then you create a ‘Connection’ from
the Control Center, and it is inside that dialog you
specify your Rithmic credentials.
If you identify the prop firm someone can probably tell
you where on that prop firm’s website you can find the
help pages that are specific to your issue.
David, thanks for the reply. Weirdly I no longer see the “configure” text at the lower right of the Connections drop-down, which I used to see at least prior to NinjaTrader 8’s update of their Desktop UI design in early 2023. Where else does one create a connection? I’ve just updated to the lastest version 8.1.6.0 64-bit
There was just one connection option with containing “Rithmic”, “Rithmic for NinjaTrader Brokerage”.
I got the error: “The IB you are trying to connect to is not authorized to use NinjaTrader wih Rithmic for NinjaTrader Brokerage”(suppose there had been no typos in credentials as they were copied exactly and worked on Rithmic’s platform).
I’ve tried all of the Chicago, Frankfurt, and Tokyo connection routes.
Assuming I’m understanding correctly, it means “Rithmic credentials is not good enough to be able to coonect to NinjaTrader, prop firm(Introducing Broker) must have exclusive authorization from NinjaTrader in addition”. But I was not aware of this subtlety beforehand, and their generic claim “These same credentials can also be used to connect to the Rithmic data feed through supported third-party platforms such as Quantower, NinjaTrader, Bookmap, and others that are Rithmic-compatible.” made me buy their account. If I want a refund, they can argue to put me on the losing side of the narrative. What would you suggest I do?
Looks like they use Discord and email for support.
Yeah, I see in their FAQS where they casually mention
‘supported’ Rithmic platforms,
“When you purchase a Futures Evaluation plan, you will receive credentials that grant you access to a Rithmic R|Trader account. These same credentials can also be used to connect to the Rithmic data feed through supported third-party platforms such as Quantower, NinjaTrader, Bookmap, and others that are Rithmic-compatible.”
I think you need to nail down whether they are really
supported by NinjaTrader. I do know that NT has said
Rithmic-based prop firms need to be specifically
authorized to use NinjaTrader.
I would suggest you also contact NinjaTrader support
and inquire specifically if MentFunding is an authorized
prop firm. Armed with NT’s answer, you’ll be able to state
your complaint more effectively to MentFunding support.
It is beyond belief that MentFunding would not know they
need authorization to use NinjaTrader to connect to Rithmic.
If they are truly an authorized prop firm to use NinjaTrader, then
ask them for specific instructions on how to connect to Rithmic,
because the errors you’re seeing aren’t being reflected in their
how-to-connect help pages.
It may be that NT will confirm that they are not an authorized
prop firm, which may point to underlying MentFunding ignorance
about business requirements needed to use the NT platform. If
so, I think you have a good case for a refund.
They offered either refund or for me to try Quantower, I figured I didn’t have more time to waste on the endless script-debugging and platform-confirguring for the time being so I opted to change for a new forex account on a manual platform that was working ok for me.
They actually removed “NinjaTrader” from the statement naming the third-party platforms applicable for Rithmic connection and didn’t seem to have indicated an interest in becoming authorized…
