Since Kraken bought Ninjatrader, I would like to mention that bitcoin futures are becoming more and more desirable to trade. They are almost 24/7 trading. They’re trading right now on a Saturday on Coinbase. I don’t have a Kraken account.
Also, perpetual futures used to be only available outside of the US, but now they’re available to US residents. No rollovers.
With 10x leverage on Coinbase, you can buy 1/10th of a bitcoin (10 nano bitcoin futures) with $1,168.11 in your margin account. On Interactive brokers, the equivalent exposure of 1/10th of a bitcoin via the MBT- micro bitcoin future would require $4,237 (last time I checked).
I see it’s been a while since you’ve posted, but I just wanted to ask—has anyone here been trading the new BTC futures products on the CME lately? I’m curious how they compare in terms of slippage and volume now compared to a year or two ago. Thinking of jumping in, but would love to hear how others are handling risk and sizing in this market lately.
You can now use USDC to purchase bitcoin futures on Coinbase. Currently you earn about 4% on USDC. So if you have an unfilled order, you’ll be earing that 4% as you wait for it to be filled.
I’m on TWS. The micro bitcoin cme futures contract, MBT seems decently liquid. It traded 32.8K contracts so far today. The micro dows futures contract, MYM has traded 68.9K contract so far today.
Also, the 10 times leverage on Coinbase is designed only for day trading. If you want to buy and hold you only get around 3.5 times leverage.
I’ve seen smoother fills lately during higher volume hours, especially around US market opens. It might help to track overlapping sessions too. I usually compare execution quality with binance, and it’s interesting how price action sometimes lines up pretty closely, even with the different spread behavior. Also noticed fewer disconnections recently, which used to throw things off for me during key moves.
I’m interested in the coin base trading. can someone lock me in on what is required on my end with ninja trader coming from futures only background and subscription.
