Simpler solution is to enable confirmation on window or tab close.
This way even if you accidentally click the X, you’ll get a confirmation dialog and can still cancel the closing of the window/tab.
That’s actually a great tip and honestly, that’s the ideal preventive step
If someone goes in and enables that setting ahead of time, it can absolutely save them from ever running into this issue.
The reality though… most users (especially newer ones) don’t even know that option exists, and they’re not digging through settings until after something goes wrong.
By the time they realize it, they’ve already clicked the X, the chart is gone, and now they’re trying to figure out how to recover everything they built.
That’s exactly where the video comes in - more of a “what to do when it’s already too late” solution.
But yeah, 100% agree - what you shared is solid preventive medicine, and definitely worth having in this thread
That’s a solid workaround and you’re absolutely right, that method does bring everything back
The only thing I’d point out is that not everyone is comfortable taking that route, especially newer users. The idea of closing an entire workspace and choosing not to save can feel a bit risky if you’re not 100% sure what’s going to happen next.
That’s really where the video helps - it just walks through the process step-by-step so there’s no hesitation or second-guessing.
At the end of the day, both approaches get to the same result. Yours is a great quick fix for those who already understand how NinjaTrader handles workspace states, and the video just makes it a bit more accessible for everyone else.
