These 1 second interruptions have no impact on my trading.
If the main problem for your specific strategy/trading style is that your strategy is being disabled, rather than that it’s screwing up while it’s without a feed - and often swing trading / non HFT strategies don’t really get affected by short disruptions - you could experiment, under close supervision, with simply going into Tools → Settings → Strategies and telling it to Keep running instead of disabling your strategy.
yes exactly that is the biggest problem for running automated strategies is they get disabled.
Thankfully there’s a tool i’ve now been using called NinjaWatchdog, they have a free 30 day trial and i’m just at the end of the trial going to start paying. It basically will auto reconnect and re enable the strategies.
Its seriously saved me this month
That is my default (keep running). I upped the restart attempts and set the X-minute settings. Jason, the guy writing the code, is doing a workaround.
I’d rather not add another product. I can handle it with code and settings changes.
I don’t think anyone has mentioned what datafeeds are disconnecting for you. That’s pertinent, because each datafeed has it’s own connector or DLL that manages the connection and the incoming data. FWIW, I have run NT7 & now NT8 for 15years, and do not have a pervasive problem with disconnects. And I push NT to and too often beyond it’s limits. I will have 3 or 4 Tradovate connections ongoing, a proper institutional CQG L2 connection (which they like to say Tradovate uses too). And I’ve had a DxFeed L2 connection, used IB data, FXCM, IQFeed, and Kinetick over the years for months at a time, and have run NT8 on a VPS. I routinely use the CQG L2, Tradovate as well as Rithmic L2, and have for years now.
I will state that the Rithmic is prone to disconnect when I reload indicators in a chart - I suspect because I am using a lot of tick charts, and the indicators pull a lot of data by way of L2 which reconstructs and pulls in an overwhelming amount of data, and I will get a temporary disconnect on the Rithmic; if I do that same chart refresh/redraw on a CQG L2 feed, I do not get the disconnect. Other details are, I run from a home coax internet connection. I’ll have 40+ charts usually, for 8+ instruments, and ~20% tick replay enabled. I have other NT quirks and pains, but disconnects is not a pervasive one. OP mentioned a 9:30 EST disconnect as routine - that’s when incoming data explodes in quantity, and something is getting overwhelmed - could be the network card/drivers, could be the routers in the mix - there are good routers, and too many bad/slow ones - I have had those be the cause, including an older issue cable ISP underwhelming router . Make sure net bandwidth controlling SW like Realtek Dragon Bandwidth Controller/MSI Lan Optimizer/Lenovo Network Boost/Dell SmartByte/Netlimiter/etc are not running - they come as part of the motherboard or PC utilities, I’ve isolated 2 such programs and can replicate disconnect problems if I re-enable them - it’s SW that tries to be smartass at sniffing, prioritizing and shaping network traffic. Also, it’d be good to troubleshoot by using a different PC with a different windows, as well as trying the problematic PC on a different ISP internet connection.
Hi @PriceIsKing - This thread is about the “Live” feed from NinjaTrader, not the program itself.
As far as I am concerned, the program is running adequately and is not noticeable affected by the very short data feed drop outs. It is just annoying and disconcerting.
If you would like to change to another trading platform, perhaps creating another thread will give you the answers you seek.
If you are having problems with the NT Live data feed, perhaps subscribing to Kinetick would be an alternative, as NinjaTrader does not seem to be aware of a solution to the dropouts of their own data feed.

I agree for 100% with you. I have the same experience. Annoying but has no impact on my trading.
If you have had 4 years of network connection issues then I’m afraid to say the issue is at your end. I’ve been a Ninjatrader user for 10 years. It runs all day every day and - yes - very briefly from time-to-time there’s a connection drop, but its very rare.
The issue is almost certainly with your network connection, but there’s an easy test.
google “net uptime monitor” - its a simple app that checks your network connection. It communicates with multiple independent sources (google, cloudflare, level3) and if any of them don’t respond in 5 seconds then it makes a screeching alert sound and you’ll know about it. If you get this then your internet connection isn’t stable and the problem isn’t NT its your network.
These things don’t show up with web browsing (which is connectionless), or netflix (which uses read-ahead caching), but with live market data which requires a stream of realtime data, it matters so ninjatrader barfs.
I think this is a router, wiring or provider issue at your end and not a Ninjatrader issue.
Maybe my original post didn’t spell out every single detail because a forum post can only be so long. But let me be clear: all of this has already been done. That’s why this has turned into a four-year-long nightmare.
I’ve worked with two different internet providers, gone through the entire chain from the switch at the pole and provider station all the way to my equipment, replaced routers, modems, lines, boxes, and yes, even computers. At one point, NinjaTrader support tried to blame my PC. A PC that is dedicated exclusively to trading.
And before anyone suggests it, no, I don’t have OneDrive running in the background. It was never activated and was completely removed. I don’t have random software cluttering the machine either. It runs trading software, period.
And before the next excuse is that I have “too many trading programs running,” save it. This machine handles multiple trading platforms across six monitors without breaking a sweat.
What’s truly amazing is that I’ve tested six or seven other trading platforms over the years, and none of them suffer from the nonstop disconnect/reconnect issues that NinjaTrader does.
I’ve been with NinjaTrader for over 20 years. The only reason I haven’t completely abandoned it sooner is because I’ve invested thousands of dollars into custom indicators and tools. Ironically, many of those were wiped out during the countless Windows reinstalls and NinjaTrader reinstalls that technical support repeatedly assured me would “fix everything.”
I’ve gone as far as installing Linux on an older trading computer just to rule things out. Obviously, running Windows trading software through containers isn’t an ideal solution, but interestingly enough, there are competing trading platforms that run natively on Linux without these problems.
So yes, I’m slowly moving away from NinjaTrader. After four years of chasing the same unresolved issue, I’ve become extremely cautious about how much I rely on it.
And no, I’m not the only person experiencing this. The difference is that some people seem willing to ignore it, excuse it, or pretend it isn’t happening.
If you’re not dealing with this issue, consider yourself lucky. Seriously. Count your blessings.
Do you think lots of people are having networking issues with Ninjatrader and just keeping quiet about it? This is a platform that places money at risk. Disconnection issues are pretty serious and people would be screaming. But the only person I know of is you.
Install “net uptime monitor” - leave it running in the background for the rest of the week.
I’m in a trading group on Discord. Many NT users have problems with disconnects in the group. A few have reported it to NT support but no solution has been given.
It seems support and development at NT has changed. There is a lot of discontent that is not addressed by NT,
Same boat here, mine drops for about two seconds around 9:31 most mornings and comes right back like nothing happened. Only thing that cut it down for me was killing wifi and running a cheap ethernet cable across the floor, plus turning off the power saving setting on the network adapter in device manager. Didn’t fix it completely, I still had one on Thursday that ate a stop, but it went from daily to maybe once a week.
