Hi, I wanted to connect an exchange like Binance or Bybit to get the data and use the platform. Is that possible? any recommendations? Thanks.
Short answer: yes for data and simulated trading, with a different answer per exchange, and no for live order routing to Binance or Bybit from inside NinjaTrader.
How it works in NT8: the platform ships with a fixed list of connections. Anything else comes in through NinjaTrader’s OpenConnect adapter framework, meaning a third-party adapter that NinjaTrader reviews and lists on the Ecosystem’s market-data page. So the question is never “can NinjaTrader do it” but “does an adapter exist for that exchange”.
Where that stands today, as far as I know:
- Coinbase: built in. Live data for the coins Coinbase lists, charts and indicators work, strategies run on the Sim101 account. No orders to your Coinbase account; it is a data connection.
- Binance: nothing in-house, but third-party adapters exist. The market-data page on the NinjaTrader Ecosystem site lists one (spot, USD-M and COIN-M futures, tick and bar history) and there are others outside the directory. I have not used them, so I cannot vouch for quality, but that page is where to look.
- Bybit: I am not aware of an adapter, reviewed or otherwise. Happy to be corrected.
Two things to check whichever route you take. Crypto trades 24/7, so give the instruments a 24/7 session template or your bars and daily boundaries will be wrong. And ask what “historical” means for the adapter: some backfill real ticks, some rebuild bars from exchange klines, and that decides what tick-based bar types and backtests are worth.
Hope that helps; if you find a Bybit adapter, post it here, others will be looking for the same thing.
