You are asking the wrong questions. You are focusing on the wrong things as you don’t mention the most essential, most important question. And that question you can only answer yourself. Nobody else can give you the correct answer for it.
There are several things you should keep in mind:
The most important, and first question you should answer is: How does my system perform? How many profitable trades do I have, and what is the average profit per trade? Same question for the losses .
Where do I put my stop? So find the optimal stop that maximizes profits and minimizes losses at the same time. These questions only you can answer yourself as nobody knows your trading plan or skills. To calculate these values you need to have all maximal profits and maximal losses for each trade between opening and closing the trade. So the max open profits and max open losse s.
For intraday trading MES you need $50 per contract. I never heard about somebody who survived that as $50 per contract is insa ne.
How much contracts you can trade with $1,000 is a stupid question and proofs that you have no idea what you are talking about. If you use $50 margin, your account will be completely wiped out if ever you are 10 points against the market. Every day there are moves bigger than 10 points, which means that each one of them can wipe you out if you get in at the wrong mom ent.
Daytrading looks many times easy. Especially if the market is very trending and makes big moves in a trend. Unfortunately, reality is that, from what I read, over 90% of daytraders never make money consistently. That is the ultimate proof that daytrading is not easy at all.
Don’t overestimate your skills. If they ask people if they think that they are within the 10% best car drivers, at least 50 % think they are. Mathematically 50% cannot be within this 10% range. The same applies to daytr ading.
I added a table that shows you how your chances are. The table just takes profits and losses without slippage or paid commissions to keep it simple. By changing the percentage of winning trades you can see the outcome for different sizes of profits and losses in p oints.
if you leave risk/margin off in sim NT wants the full initial sitting there, like 2800 for MES, so a 1k account just rejects. turn margin on or it doesn’t look like live. i sized 1 MES on a 2k sim last year and one open took 400 off it.
